Information on the Orchestra and Elizabeth Jordan

Penrith Music Club starts its new season of concerts on Monday 25th September at Penrith Methodist Church with a visit by the ever-popular Northern Chamber Orchestra. These musicians have made several enjoyable visits in the past and this concert should prove to be no exception, featuring Mozart’s beautiful, hauntingly melodic Clarinet Concerto.

Alan Rawsthorne’s Elegiac Rhapsody complements this melancholic, perhaps appropriately autumnal theme. More famous for his film music for 1950s British classics, notably ‘The Cruel Sea’, he composed a wide range of concert music, including two fine piano concertos.

In lighter vein, the Northern Chamber orchestra will present an early Haydn Symphony (No. 3), a more substantial classical piece than its early date might presume, together with Schubert’s 5th  Symphony, which combines classical delicacy with memorable tunefulness.
